Arts from Waiting Hearts
Columbus, Ohio October 9, 2009--- King Arts Complex in collaboration with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Franklin County Children Services, and Outlook Magazine present the exhibition Arts from Waiting Hearts Thursday, November 12, 2009 thru January 29, 2010 at the King Arts Complex. The exhibition will highlight art by youth ages seven to seventeen from Franklin County Children’s Services who are available for adoption and awaiting their forever families. They invite the viewer to gain insight into their hearts through creative works that allow the viewer to have a small glimpse into their waiting hearts, minds and spirits. Join us as we work to increase adoption awareness and celebrate the youth as they share their vision of the future
Our objective is to utilize art to create awareness in the community on adoption 25 young artists will create drawings, paintings which will be hung in an exhibition to be viewed in the King Arts Complex corridor. Each artwork will share a new story of adoption and healing by expressing through creative art.
Premised on the visionary, poetic and prophetic potential in art, the exhibition avoids tabloid and sensational imagery. The invited youth artists will be asked “to help us create a new vocabulary through their artworks and, in doing so, heal us, transform us and help us feel and understand the importance of adoption, especially in the African American community,” says Stull.
We hope the audience leaves the exhibition with a better understanding of the importance of adoption in addition to feeling empowered through empathy, information, and actual facts to give them a sense that giving a child a home, makes our community stronger.
Opening Reception for Arts from Waiting Hearts will be Thursday, November 12, 2009 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the King Arts Complex 867 Mount Vernon Avenue Columbus, OH.
