Large, luminous fire torches along the Scioto River and Columbus’ skyline
created an extraordinary backdrop for a brilliant performance Friday night
by BalletMet.
The production, part of Music in the Air’s Rhythm on the River series,
previewed the dance company’s upcoming season.
BalletMet delighted the crowd at Riverfront Amphitheater with excerpts from
some of its new pieces as well as classic favorites, including the
action-packed Great Gatsby, the graceful Swan Lake, the
sexy Carmina Burana, and the comedic Call it Off.
The show opens with a lively swing/jazz routine from Gatsby and goes out
with a bang with scenes from Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) and
Bourbon Street.
There is an array of dance styles and music throughout the production. The
entire season is described as “eclectic,” said Jennifer Sciantarelli,
communications manager, BalletMet. There is “truly something for
everybody.”
The season starts in October with Swan Lake featuring a pas de deux
by Zoica Tovar and Andres Estevez.
