Call for Alpha Jewel Award

is partnering with Alpha Rho Lambda’s Education Foundation for its first call for nominations for its Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., 2009 Jewel Awards. This year’s theme “A Celebration of Visionary Leadership” continues the legacy of the inaugural event of recognizing transformational acts of leadership in the Columbus area.Readers are invited to submit an application naming their neighbor, friend or organization and complete a form with a brief synopsis of how their nominee provides a positive history of African Americans’. Nominations for a Jewel Award may be submitted by any member of the central Ohio community.
Nominations will be solicited publicly in YourNewsColumbus, via e-mail, and through communications targeting organizations throughout the Columbus community. Nominations will be accepted up to the time of the selection committee September 4th.

Candidates for a Jewel Award must be unanimously approved by the Selection Committee and upon approval.
The utmost care will be taken to assure that the nomination process is confidential.
Up to seven awards will be given in the following areas:
Leadership in Health/Wellness/Medicine
Leadership in Education
Outstanding Social and Community Service
Leadership in Business/Enterprise
Thought Leadership in Arts/Performing Arts/Humanities
Outstanding Service in Legal/Governmental/Statesmanship
Technology Leadership and its Application
Recipients will be honored at a fall luncheon to be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Tickets are available at www.cal2009.eventbrite.com. Proceeds from the event will fund grants for award recipients and fund academic scholarships administered by the Alpha Rho Lambda Education Foundation. The Alpha Rho Lambda Education Foundation was founded in April of 1979 by the Columbus Alumni Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to promote scholarship and youth development.
