In a Fallen World is a contemporary Gospel musical adaptation of the biblical book of Job. It was written and directed by local artist J. Maria “Candi” Landrum under the musical direction of Tony Cobb. This production was performed at the beautifully renovated Lincoln Theatre.

This show is a thought provoking, inspirational and uplifting piece brought to life by Columbus’ own extremely talented cast and highly skilled crew.

The audience was sent on an emotional roller coaster with a combination of comedy and drama. Occasionally the fourth wall was broken to encourage crowd interaction.

Themes of love, mercy, faith, sin and pain were addressed. Many themes of which the audience could relate to, leaving them with much to think and talk about with family and friends.

Several members laughed and cried as they went along on the journey with the main characters James (Shawn Anderson) and Honey Black (Dr. Elaine Richardson). The spectators watched in anticipation as they get caught up in a tug of war between the gracious God and the cunning Fallen One.

The character James Osborne Black is like the modern day Job from the Bible. He is a God-fearing and obedient man, unlike his selfish and mean-spirited wife Honey Black. She had an abrasive personality and a shrill voice to go with it.

The evil Fallen One/Angel Powers was played by the multi-talented Dana Hall. The Fallen One dressed in black and red used sneaky, snakelike movements and deceptive schemes to lure her victims. The red, flashing lights, creepy music and thundering sound effects added to the daunting atmosphere.

On the other hand, the dynamic voice of God (Minister Bronsen Landrum) sent down a sign of hope.

In a Fallen World is definitely a must see for all. It is not only entertaining given that there is a variety of soulful singers, talented actors and musicians. This musical is an inspiration and sends a positive message to keep the faith.
