More than 130 students of all ages showed off what they've learned
the past year at the recent recital of Leap of Faith Dance &
Apparel.
The program Dance/Life/Faith was the first at the Lincoln Theatre
for Leap of Faith, one of the resident arts groups at the historic
building.
Diversity was reflected not only in age, but styles of performance,
including tap, jazz, ballet and liturgical dance during matinee and
evening performances on Saturday, June 13.
Owner and Artistic Director Crystal L. Boyce, who started Leap of
Faith more than four years ago, recognized outstanding individuals
in each age bracket "who have grown out of their comfort zone to
another level."
Honors also went to two June high school grads, Ashley VanCleaf and
Brooke Jackson. VanCleaf soloed on "My Testimony."
Boyce also performed a solo, which she dedicated to her husband,
State Treasurer Kevin L. Boyce, who's also the dancers' stage
manager; sons Kevin Jr. and Kristofer; and the Leap of Faith family.
Many audience members attend St. Paul AME Church, where Mrs Boyce
leads the Praise in Motion dance ministry.
A moment was devoted to Tanea L. Staples, 12, a former dancer with
Leap of Faith who died on June 13. She danced the lead role, Clare,
in last year's production of The Chocolate Nutcracker in
conjunction with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
