About 60 women received pointers on hair care Saturday at a workshop conducted by stylist Karen Coleman, owner of Synergi Salon.

The event, one of Coleman’s “Get It Straight” workshops, offered tips on home to manage hair at home, tips for daughters, myths about textured hair and the truth about chemical relaxers.

“We shouldn’t be afraid of our own hair,” Coleman said.

One of the myths about textured hair, she said, “is that people have to rely on a lot of chemicals to process it. That you can have it straight naturally is fascinating to me.”

Susan Davis of Lexington said, “I learned that you really don’t have to have a relaxer.”

Coleman’s tips on straightening hair will be useful close to home and abroad because Davis attended the session with her daughters Melanie Davis of Pataskala and Shiva Scotti of Munich, Germany.

The event was held at the Book Suite Loft, 887 E. Long St., where guests were invited to purchase products in a line developed by Coleman. She has developed 13 products for different types of hair.
