Parents Encouraged to Register Early for Upcoming 2009-10 School Year

Register between Jul. 13 – Aug. 7 at one of two locations

COLUMBUS, OH, Jun 15, 2009 – Parents or guardians of students who are new to the district, or have moved over the summer, can take advantage of the Columbus City Schools (CCS) Centralized Registration Program. (Note: Students registering for the district’s year-round schools – Weinland Park or Woodcrest elementary schools – should go directly to those schools’ offices, which are open.)

For the upcoming 2009-10 school year, CCS is making the transition for incoming sixth- and ninth- grade students easier by hosting a Back-to-School Day, Aug. 19, 2009, from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Designed to give these students a trial run, the students will ride their assigned bus to and from their new school, meet with their new teachers, learn expectations and meet their fellow classmates. Just as with a traditional school day, a free breakfast and lunch will be provided.

In addition, thanks to the support of Columbus taxpayers in approving Issue 75 last November, additional instruction time has been restored to the school day. Accordingly, middle schools and high schools will begin their day at 7:30 a.m. instead of 8:23 a.m. Elementary schools will begin their day at 9 a.m. For more information about school start times for the 2009-10 school year, visit www.columbus.k12.oh.us or click HERE.

The Centralized Registration Program, which runs through August 7, allows students to register in one of two locations between the hours of 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Mon. – Thur., and Fri. from 9 a.m. – noon. Routine health assessments will be available for all new students. Days, locations and times are listed below.

Mondays – Thursdays, CCS Hudson Center at 737 E. Hudson St., and,
Fridays, Columbus West HS, 179 S. Powell Av.
