Ohio State went on the road for the first time this season -- the neutral
site game against Toledo notwithstanding -- and was extended a healthy dose
of Hoosier hospitality in a 33-14 victory over Indiana Saturday night.
OSU's swarming defense held a high-powered Indiana offense to just 228
yards and forced three turnovers, and beat the Hoosiers for the 15th
consecutive time. It was also the Buckeyes' 16th straight conference road
victory, one off the record of 17 set by Michigan from 1988-92.
Terrelle Pryor tossed three touchdown passes and finished with 222 yards of
total offense, and Brandon Saine ran for a career-best 113 yards in his
first-ever start.
The Buckeyes (4-1, 2-0) got on the board with a 46-yard Aaron Pettrey field
goal less than three minutes into the contest, and added to the lead when
Pryor hit freshman Duron Carter with a five yard scoring strike with 7:29 to
play in the first quarter. Indiana (3-2, 0-2) answered with a touchdown pass
that made it 10-7 moments into the second quarter, but Pryor was at it
again, finding DeVier Posey on a 23-yard slant pass for a score that made it
17-7 with three minutes gone in the second quarter.
Ohio State got on the board again just before halftime when Pryor rolled
right and found freshman fullback Zach Boren all alone for an eight-yard
touchdown pass, putting the Buckeyes up 24-7 and effectively ending the
Hoosiers evening.
"We got a little sloppy in the fourth quarter," OSU coach Jim Tressel said.
"But we made some big plays, and our defense did a good job of setting the
tempo."
OSU returns home to take on Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
